Help File for Dynamic Family Tree






Using Dynamic Family Trees:

This application, Dynamic Family Tree, is a Java Applet which, when executed, will allow higherarchical, tree structured display our ancestors, children, and partner of the Current Owner. The Current Owner may be chosen from all the relationships available to the center person. Each person may be selected to be the Current Owner.

You may change this person by pushing the button Change Current Owner. His/her name will be displayed centrally with the children on the left and ancestors on the right. This application is capable of displaying one child generation, one current generation, and four ancestral generations at one time without changing the Current Owner. The user may relocate within the generations of the ancestors without limitation other than those of the GEDCOM file itself.

The name of the active Current Owner appears in the title-line on top of the screen. The persons relation lines to the Family-Tree are displayed in color, each of which with its own meaning:
  • LIGHT BLUE = Current Owner
  • RED = Descendant or Ancestor of the Current Owner.
  • GREEN = Person has ancestors in common with the Current Owner.
  • DARK BLUE = There are no genetic relationships between the chosen person and the Current Owner.
Multi-Database Files The Multi-File-button, if present, indicates the presence of multiple databases to be found within this viewer. By 'clicking' on this button the databases contained within the viewer will be revealed and may be individually selected from a dropdown list.
Return to Owner The Default Owner-button, will always return the user to the default owner (RIN No. = 1) of this database.
Change Owner The Change Default Owner-button, to a new Default Owner chosen by the user. All color codes will be changed according to the new default owner.
Standard Owner The Standard Owner-button returns to the default Default Owner. All color codes will be changed according to the new default owner.
Show text Show picture If any information or pictures available, an extra information screen will appear displaying the Text-button or the Picture-button. If the person concerning is at the beginning, buttons are activated to show the extra text and/or picture(s).
Change partner In case there are multiple relationships, Next Partner-button will pop up to reveal them. If there are children involved, a relation number is added identifying the children to the partners. Click on Descendant, Partner or Ancestor to change the center person.
Full Name list Select by the Full  index or Partial Index-button the new center person.
Name List by query The Partial Index displays a partial list for a name query. You can use wildcards like * or ? in the query. The method of use of these wildcards, may be found in the Help-screen after pushing the Partial  Index-button.
Back Forward Push on the Back- or Forward-button to review the center-persons list already selected.
Point with your mouse to a person's name for details in the information display.
